Afree the African Snail

Afree the African Snail

Afree the glorious, colourful snail was created by the imaginative children in Year 2 at St. Bartholomew’s school, with some help from the older children.

As Year 2 have a giant African land snail in their class, that they love looking after, it inspired us to learn more about Africa and African art, including its wonderful music and stories.

Inspired by beautiful African fabrics and the work of the artist Yinka Shonibare, the Year 2 children came up with this eye-catching design. All the patterns were designed by the children after looking at and learning about traditional African textiles.
