Have You Heard About Our #SnailsThatRead?

14 Oct 2018

A children’s bookshop in Hove has been exchanging tweets with Brighton and Hove Libraries using the hashtag #SnailsThatRead.

The BookNook

The BookNook has two Junior Snails watching the world go by from their shop window. Melanie and Splats have been pictured reading their way through the bookshop’s stock.

We’ve noticed a bit of a minibeast theme in the Snails reading choices. First of all, The BookNook tweeted showing Melanie and Splats reading ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler.

Melanie and Splats were then pictured joining in with Roald Dahl Day celebrations by reading about some other not-so-mini beasts in James and the Giant Peach.

Brighton and Hove Libraries

The BookNook followed this up by tweeting Brighton and Hove Libraries to ask if they had any #SnailsThatRead. They soon replied that two of the Junior Snails at Jubilee Library, Slimey and Berry, had been seen relaxing with a good book.

Slimey was pictured reading ‘Sophie’s Snail’ by Dick King-Smith, whilst Berry appeared to be fascinated by Yuval Zommer’s ‘The Big Book of Bugs.’

Brighton and Hove Libraries has created a special selection of Snail-themed books to help motivate young mollusc enthusiasts. The collection can be found in the children’s section of Jubilee Library.

We’re wondering if some of our Snails are really bookworms in disguise!
