Helen O’Grady Drama Academy and #BeMoreSnail
This September Principal of Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, Nicky Davin, will be truly embracing the ethos of #BeMoreSnail as she takes part in her first ever triathlon to raise money for us. In her own words, Nicky may well be the final snail to cross the finishing line but she hopes the experience will enable her to see Brighton in a different light along the way.
“It’s amazing how much our city changes in a day. One minute I’m running alongside revellers and road sweepers and the next I’m on top of the downs looking out at the sprawling city below. It has been an amazing opportunity to take a moment, slow down and to appreciate the vibrant, fun, crazy beautiful place in which we live.”
Each year the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy actively fundraises for a different charity and this year they’re fundraising for us via our Snailspace campaign. Along with the triathlon they are in the possession of a Junior Snail and will be performing at the grand unveiling of our Junior Snailway at Jubilee Library on 9 September.
Nicky explains: “#BeMoreSnail is perfect for us because we are constantly encouraging our children to look at the world around them and communicate their thoughts and feelings about the world in a self-assured and confident manner.
The point of our lessons is to instil confidence, to foster creativity and hone communication skills. We want all our children to appreciate that there is more to life than sitting in front of a screen. Our classes get them up and active, give them the opportunity to take time to create meaningful friendships with others and are huge amounts of fun”
We are delighted to have their support and are looking forward to seeing their children perform at our Junior Snailway launch in September.
