“When I think of the sea, my brain conjures up images of the famous woodblock print by Hokusai, The Great Wave off Kanagawa (ca. 1829-1833),” says artist Fiona Blair. The print is one of the most recognizable works of Japanese art in the world. Here, the curve of the wave works beautifully with the curve of the Snail’s shell.
Fiona is a freelance illustrator based in the heart of Brighton. Her portfolio is comprised of vibrant, detailed, acrylic illustrations, exploring a variety of subjects. Hokusai’s original imagery has been adapted to incorporate familiar elements of Brighton and Hove, reflecting our city and its multicultural and LGBTQ+ community.
