Snails Can’t Dance Competition

23 Oct 2018

Everyone knows that Snails can’t dance… or can they?

Did you know that  ‘Snails Can’t Dance’ is a tribute to a much-loved and massively popular children’s book? The book was written by  Giles Andreae and illustrated by our very own Snailspace artist Guy Parker-Rees?

Giraffes Can’t Dance was first published in 1999. Andreae was inspired to write the book after seeing the unexpectedly graceful way giraffes moved across the plains of Kenya and how “we can all do things which others don’t expect us to”. Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the book’s publication, Guy Parker-Rees painted his Snail with joyful images inspired by the original children’s book. Guy has a passion for drawing animals. He likes to use a lively ‘bouncing line’, strong colours and clear expressions to convey feelings in his work.
